Course Instructor: Evelyn Thompson

Program Outcome: G1: Recognizes and plans for student diversity and achievement based on observations and knowledge.

Rationale:

In the course, Teacher As Professional, students were required to develop a mission statement that expressed their values, beliefs, purpose and goals as an education professional. The creation of this mission statement was a special assignment (both personal and professional). The mission statement is a clear and succinct representation of this educator’s purpose and goals. Through reflection of personal educational experiences, pedagogy and current professional classroom experiences, this learner created a mission that would have a profound impact on all students. Mission statements clearly communicate the goals and purposes of the professional educator.

This mission and purpose statements will serve as a reminder and focus for this learner throughout the school year. In general, this learner fully supports that all educators, striving to become a high perform teacher, should develop a clear goal and purpose via a mission statement. With this mission, this educator strives to promote academic excellence in the biological sciences and technology, by providing an academic climate that develops students’ intellectual curiosity and research skills. The classroom is designed to enhance students’ comprehensive science and research skill through the study of biological sciences. Students are encouraged to think critically and creatively and to improve their communicative, quantitative, and technological skills. Students are prepared and encouraged to enter institutions of higher learning.
